Serums and creams and lotions…oh my! What’s the difference?

Trying to make an educated and informed decision when it comes to skin care products can be hard when you are faced with an assortment of choices.

Though you need to pick the right products designed for your skin care type and specific needs, you may find it difficult to choose between the top three forms of skin care products that are intended for moisturizing, hydrating, restoring and repairing skin.

How do you choose? Here’s the 411 on moisturizers:

Serums are the most concentrated of the group and are typically a liquid consistency. A very small amount is needed and the ingredients are highly concentrated, making serums ideal for targeted treatment areas such as around the eyes and mouth.

Creams are the thickest form of skin care as they are rich in nutrients and are intended to soak in to the skin over time. Creams work well in the morning when you are not applying makeup right away and are highly suitable for nighttime use when you have all night for the cream to completely soak in to the skin.

Lotion is a form of cream, and is thinner in consistency. Lotions work well for routine skin care and can soak in to the skin rather quickly. Lotions are ideal when you have a compressed morning routine and need to get your makeup on almost as soon as you apply your lotion.

The right choice for you is the one that gives you the level of moisturizing and rejuvenation you need so your skin always looks and feels healthy, well hydrated, smooth, supple and renewed. If you’re unsure of your particular skincare needs, schedule an appointment with us and we’ll help.
