Restylane vs. Juvederm: Which will I need?

Dermal fillers are materials that can be injected into the skin to reduce the look of lines and depressions. These compounds are a safe and effective way to improve the appearance of facial skin without surgery. A number of different dermal fillers are available and can be used for different purposes. A look at two of the most popular products, Restylane and Juvederm, can help you and your certified injection specialist determine what’s right for you.

Understanding Dermal Fillers

Both Restylane and Juvederm are made from hyaluronic acid. This is an acid compound that occurs naturally in the human body. It forms bonds in the skin to help moisturize it and give it plumpness. Each type of dermal filler may contain different ingredients that make it appropriate for specific needs. Both Restylane a Juvederm have a good record of effectiveness in reducing wrinkles, and both are safe to use.

Restylane Injectable Fillers

Restylane is composed of a non-animal hyaluronic acid that does not come from birds or bovine species. This feature can be important if you are highly allergic to certain compounds. Restylane is absorbed by the body more easily than Juvederm, which means you may require more frequent injections. Restylane’s gel form has larger particles, which can be helpful in filling in deeper depressions and lines in the skin. Restylane is often considered a good solution for undereye bags and lip enhancement, although Restylane Silk was recently introduced to provide more advanced lip augmentation results.

Juvederm Dermal Filler Treatments

Juvederm is made from a similar non-animal based hyaluronic acid compound. However, Juvederm has a somewhat smoother consistency, which some providers prefer for filling very fine lines. Generally, Juvederm is slightly less expensive than Restylane. Juvederm is also often used for lip augmentation treatments. If you’re looking for cheek augmentation, ask us about Juvederm Voluma.

Both products are safe and effective for filling facial wrinkling. Your provider will help you choose the best product for your individual needs.
