Congratulations on your weight loss! You probably thought you’d never get down to your ideal weight no matter how hard you dieted and/or exercised, but with lots of support and determination, you’ve done it. The only problem? There are these pockets of fat that just won’t go away. It might be that roll just beneath your bra line, a slight muffin top, love handles, or flab on the underside of your arms you half-humorously call your chicken wings. Stubborn fat seems to congregate around your inner thighs, buttocks or jowls. Or you may even still have a double chin. It’s as if they’re all mocking your success.

Fortunately, our aesthetic medical specialists at Ultra Smooth Skin have an answer. It’s called body sculpting, and it’s a way to get rid of those areas of fat that refuse to melt away on their own despite all your good work. The great thing about our body sculpting methods is that they are noninvasive, or minimally invasive, and have very little downtime. You can go home immediately after a session, and, with most treatments, you’ll start to see the results right away.

Body sculpting doesn’t just remove fat. Some treatments tighten your skin, soften the look of wrinkles and lines, and leave your skin tone and texture smooth and even. Read on to learn about a few of the body sculpting techniques we offer in Scottsdale and Chandler, AZ.

CoolSculpting: The #1 Non-Surgical, Fat Reduction Body Sculpting Procedure

body sculpting with coolsculpting

This popular body sculpting treatment takes advantage of how fat cells become damaged at a different temperature than cells in your skin. Crystals form in fat cells when temperatures dip, which in turn cause the cells to die off. These are then processed and expelled by your body.

Who Can Get CoolSculpting?

You’re a good candidate for CoolSculpting if you’re in good health and you have realistic expectations about the treatment. Since it is not a solution for weight loss, you should avoid CoolSculpting if you’re receiving treatment for obesity.

The CoolSculpting Treatment

During CoolSculpting, you’ll lie back on a treatment table while our aesthetician cleanses the area. An appliance will be placed over the target area that will suction the skin and fat in order to cool it down. Each body sculpting session lasts about half an hour.

Over the following weeks, you’ll notice a reduction in the area treated with CoolSculpting leaving you with a trimmer silhouette. To ensure any lingering fat cells are removed, you can return to our offices for more treatments. We recommend that the intervals between your sessions be around eight weeks.

There might be a bit of bruising and swelling after your CoolSculpting treatments, but this resolves after a week or so.

Thermage: #1 in Skin Tightening

thermage skin tightening body sculpting

As its name suggests, Thermage uses heat for body sculpting. Collagen, a type of protein, is found throughout our bodies, especially in connective tissue such as tendons and in the layers beneath our skin. This protein naturally breaks down as we age, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin. Thermage uses radiofrequency waves to contract the collagen and stimulate production of more in your body, thus keeping your skin supple and firm while filling out areas that are sagging or wrinkled.

Who Can Get Thermage?

Thermage is good for all skin tones and types. You’re a good candidate for Thermage if you’re early to late middle age. It’s most often performed on the face, especially around your eyes and your forehead, but can also be performed on your tummy, thighs and upper arms.

The Thermage Treatment

As you lie comfortably on our treatment table, our nurse aesthetician will place a grid over the treatment area. This grid provides guidance during the session so that heat may be deeply delivered to your skin.

Depending on your needs, a Thermage session may take between 20 minutes and two hours, but improvements in texture and tone can be seen after only one session. Many see immediate results, with gradual improvements over the next two to six months.

RF-Microneedling

bodysculpting with rf microneedling skin tightening

This body sculpting treatment uses radiofrequency waves with microneedling. As with Thermage, it uses the heat of radiofrequency to treat signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, but this treatment also uses fine needles (microneedling) to create tiny punctures in the skin prompting your body to produce more collagen as well as elastin, another protein that keeps your skin youthful. Microneedling is usually performed with a dermaroller or a dermapen. In the case of RF-Microneedling, the radiofrequency heat gets delivered through the microneedles. With RF-Microneedling, there is no risk of uneven pigmentation. The treatment also:

  • Stimulates collagen production
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines
  • Shrinks pores
  • Diminishes acne scars

RF-Microneedling differs from regular microneedling in that the punctures are shallower. Deeper punctures are unnecessary as the the needling is in tandem with radiofrequency heat. Still, you may want to come back for more treatments. The shallowness of the needles, though, is one of the reasons why it works so well for people with darker and/or thicker skin.

Who Can Get RF-Microneedling?

As with other body sculpting procedures, you’re a good candidate for RF-Microneedling if you’re in good physical health. However, if you’re pregnant, you should wait until after delivery before receiving this treatment. If you have skin lesions in the treatment area that are still active, you should wait until they heal.

The RF-Microneedling Treatment

You’ll be back in the treatment chair during RF-Microneedling. First, one of our aesthetic medical specialists will place numbing cream on the target area until it takes effect, usually between 30 and 40 minutes.

Once that occurs, the cream will be removed and one of our providers will then use a hand-held device on specific areas of your skin.

You’ll be able to leave the office immediately following the procedure, but you should rest for a couple of days at home. Avoid washing your skin for that time. You’ll also need to avoid direct sunlight or heat so wear sunblock if you must go out during the day. This is true even if you have a darker skin tone. You’ll be able to use makeup about 48 hours after, but do not exfoliate your skin for at least 10 days. Your skin may appear red and feel a bit tender for a few days; this will pass. Another bonus for moms: RF-Microneedling also works on stretch marks.

ThermaFrax: Thermage + Fraxel

ThermaFrax is a two-step procedure: first, loose, sagging skin is treated with Thermage; then, a Fraxel laser for uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and even stretch marks.

Who Can Get ThermaFrax?

ThermaFrax is safe for most patients who want to address loose, sagging skin, and also wish to address skin tone and texture concerns. You shouldn’t have any active lesions, such as active acne, on the areas you want treated.

The ThermaFrax Treatment

As you lie comfortably on the treatment table, we’ll perform the Thermage procedure. Once that is complete, the aesthetician will place protective goggles over your eyes and give you an air blower you can use to cool your skin during the laser treatment. The aesthetician then apples the Fraxel laser with a hand-held device. Fraxel lasers work by penetrating the skin with minuscule laser columns. It’s so accurate that it only treats the area you want treated and leaves healthy skin alone. This procedure is good for:

  • Fine lines such as crow’s-feet and brow lines
  • Scars
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Sun damage

Usually three to five treatments of ThermaFrax are necessary to completely treat an area, and you can come back for maintenance.

Z-Wave Cellulite Removal

body sculpting cellulite treatment

For a long time, ridding a patient of cellulite, or even reducing the appearance, was the Holy Grail of cosmetic dermatologists. Cellulite isn’t just pockets of fat; it’s fat mixed with debris and gas that’s trapped by septae, which are bands of connective tissue just beneath the skin. Z-Wave Cellulite Removal can deal with this scourge which mostly affects women. The treatment is different from the other body sculpting treatments because it uses sound waves. This body sculpting technique is especially effective if you use it after CoolSculpting.

Who Can Get Z-Wave Cellulite Removal?

You’re a good candidate for Z-Wave if you’re healthy but you have pockets of cellulite that refuse to go away. During your consultation, our medical aesthetician will be able to tell you if Z-wave is the best answer.

The Z-Wave Cellulite Removal Treatment

The Z-Wave treatment usually takes 10 to 30 minutes After applying a gel, the aesthetician will pass a hand-held applicator over your skin. This applicator delivers pulsed energy that stimulates blood flow to the area and break up the trapped debris. Unlike with some other body sculpting treatments, people claim Z-wave is completely painless and even relaxing. For optimal results, you should have between six and ten treatments of Z-Wave.
