Eat Your Way to Beautiful Skin!

What if the key to beautiful skin is not about what you put on your skin but what you put into it? Skin care is a booming industry in our country. There are a multitude of products available on the drugstore shelves. However, perhaps the best thing you can do for lovely skin is to shop your local grocery store.

Better Collagen Production with Vitamin C
Many plastic surgeries to correct skin issues revolve around adding collagen to the skin both through natural and artificial means. Collagen gives your skin its youthful, full appearance and keeps it from sagging.

Eating Vitamin C-containing foods will aid collagen production as well as protect your skin from cellular damage. While you may think that an orange is the best choice, these other fruits and vegetables contain as much or more Vitamin C than the citrus fruit:

  • Bell peppers

  • Strawberries

  • Broccoli

  • Vitamin E as an Anti-Aging Formula
The effects of aging are often first seen on your face. This is the skin that is on display to the world, and there is little to do to cover it up without expensive surgeries.

Vitamin E has long been used as an anti-aging component of skin care products. The best way to enjoy its benefits is to consume it in foods like nuts, seeds and wheat germ.

    Apply Sunscreen Internally
While the sun causes many skin problems including skin cancer, there is more you can do to protect from its harmful rays than apply more sunscreen. Sunscreens are often toxic, and the skin absorbs these toxins along with their protective properties.

The best plan is to eat foods which enhance your skin’s ability to protect itself. Omega-3-containing foods such as fish and flax seeds are excellent choices. Tomatoes and carrots have also been observed to reduce skin reddening after sun exposure.

You will find that many of these recommendations are not only good for your skin but also for your overall health. Think of the skin as the largest organ of the body. If you eat foods to protect your liver, heart and lungs, the benefits will rise to the top leaving glowing skin as a result.
