Botox vs. Dysport: What’s The Difference?

For many years, Botox, distributed by Allergan Inc., has been widely known as a popular product for reducing fine lines and wrinkles associated with aging. Dysport is a more recent treatment distributed by Allergan’s competitor Galderma that is used for the same procedures. While both products are similar, there are some differences you can discuss with your provider to decide which is right for you.

Similarities Between Botox and Dysport

Both of these injectable wrinkle relaxers are the same product, botulinum toxin A and are both considered non-surgical esthetic products. This means that they are used in medical spas and health care clinics without the need for surgical operations. Both Botox and Dysport have been used to treat lines and wrinkles for many years, and each brand is considered safe to use and FDA approved. They both require repeat injections every three to six months to maintain a wrinkle-free look.

Differences Between Botox and Dysport

These products are extremely similar, but they do have small yet notable differences. The protein in Dysport is somewhat smaller than the protein found in Botox. This means that Dysport may work slightly quicker than Botox can, with a single injection affecting a larger area. On the other hand, the effects of Dysport may not last quite as long as the effects of Botox, nor is it as precise as Botox. In some cases, Dysport is less expensive than Botox. This is not always the case, but rather a common trend in most aesthetic offices in the United States.
