How to Reduce Your Risk of Heart Disease While You Sleep

Heart disease kills more women and men each year than any other illness. That might sound scary, but the good news is that there are several things that can be done to reduce the risk of developing this condition. Below are two ways that people can fight heart disease during their sleep:

Sleep for at least seven hours

People need to make sure that they get seven or more hours of sleep per night. Studies have shown that people who do not get enough sleep are more likely to develop heart disease. Those who find it difficult to get seven or more hours of sleep per night should set a sleep schedule. A person may also want to consider taking a 30 minute nap a couple days out of the week. Studies have shown that people who take a 30 minute nap three or more days out of the week can cut their risk of developing heart disease by 30 percent.

Reduce your exposure to loud noise

Researchers have found that people that are chronically exposed to loud noise during their sleep are more likely to develop high blood pressure. High blood pressure greatly increases a person’s risk of developing heart disease. Using ear plugs is one way that a person can block out external noise. People may also want to consider using a white noise machine or turning on a fan.

Sleeping for a least seven hours and reducing one’s exposure to loud noise will help a person fight heart disease. Additionally, people also need to make sure that they are exercising and eating right. Eating a well-balanced diet and exercising on a regular basis can also help fight heart disease.
