BOTOX FAQ

Everyone recognizes the brand-name BOTOX. However, few understand how Botox works, that it’s safe and FDA-approved, and that it gives beautiful results when administered by a qualified and licensed medical professional. So what have you always wanted to know about Botox Cosmetic? This Botox FAQ will help you get started.

Botox FAQ

Are you considering a Botox treatment? A consultation with one of our aesthetic injectors is the best way to find out more about this anti-aging injectable and its effectiveness for your needs. However, this Botox FAQ will help educate you about this popular wrinkle relaxing injectable.

Does Botox always work?

Unfortunately, no cosmetic treatment works for everyone or works exactly the same every time. One German study found that 1 out of every 200 people develops antibodies to Botulinum toxin, the active ingredient. Botox Cosmetic; however, works very well for most adults who wish to reduce the appearance of fine lines in the upper face.

Are Botox results instant?

Botox treatments don’t provide instant results because it takes some time for the injection to settle and relax your facial muscles and smooth away lines. In most cases, people will start to see results in 48 hours, but it might take between 10 and 12 days to see the full effect of your treatment. As a general rule, get your treatment before a special occasion at least a week or 10 days in advance. That interval will give you time for the injection to settle, and it will also provide enough time for any side effects to dissipate, such as swelling. Botox results typically last 3-4 months.

Can Botox be reversed?

The simple answer is that Botox can’t be reversed like fillers. There is no antidote or compound that can dissolve the injection, such as those that can dissolve hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. Only time will dissipate the results. That’s why it’s so important to choose a reputable treatment center instead of a cut-rate facility that might not have the experience or knowledge to administer the injections properly. Inexperienced practitioners can inadvertently create an uneven bilateral appearance, drooping eyelids and other problems. An expert injector could counter certain problems with an additional injection, a dermal filler or other cosmetic options.

Does Botox fill in wrinkles?

Botox doesn’t fill in wrinkles but relaxes muscles and prevents them from contracting. When facial muscles can’t contract, the lines and wrinkles of the face can’t appear. The Botox injection works best on crow’s feet, forehead lines and other wrinkles and fine lines of the upper face. Dermal fillers, however, do smooth out the skin and “fill in” wrinkles. Fillers use hyaluronic acid, which binds with water under the skin after the filler is injected.

Does Botox help with acne?

The information about using Botox to treat acne is still being tested. However, you can treat your acne with chemical peels and other skin care products that we carry.

A recent study found that Botox treatments reduced wrinkles in static glabellar lines (lines between the eyebrows) without increasing acne outbreaks and even reduced acne outbreaks in certain cases. Although we don’t treat acne with Botox, our providers can help you choose the best solutions for wrinkles, acne outbreaks and other skin concerns based on thoroughly vetted scientific and clinical best practices.

Does Botox plump lips?

Botox is not used to plump lips, but this is a common misconception. Instead, hyaluronic dermal fillers are used to plump lips and treat wrinkles and folds in the face. Fillers made from hyaluronic acid can soften fine lines, restore fullness to the skin and augment lips. Hyaluronic acid is a natural compound that occurs in the skin’s connective tissue, so it is very safe for most people. Examples of hyaluronic fillers include Restylane and Juvederm, and we provide these injectable filler services as well as neuromodulator injections of Botox, Dysport and Xeomin.

Does Botox require a prescription?

Botox always requires a legitimate prescription. In Arizona, Botox providers must take a full medical history and consult with the patient before getting a prescription for Botox and receiving treatment.

Can Botox look natural?

Botox can create a “frozen” look in the hands of an inexperienced provider. However, the team at Ultra Smooth Skin has extensive experience and aesthetic skill in using Botox and other injectables. Your look can be completely natural after the injection settles, which could take up to 12 days. After your injection, your new “natural” look can last up to four months.

Can Botox lift the brows?

Although surgery is often used for brow lifts, you can get amazing results using Botox. Injected into the muscles that pull eyebrows down, Botox can stop drooping and sagging, reduce wrinkles and lift the brows. Your provider won’t treat the muscles that raise the brows, so you’ll get a high-arching brow that generates a youthful appearance.

Can Botox treat depression?

Botox has been found to help in treating depression and relieving social anxieties. Botox developer Allergan recently decided to begin trials of Botox to treat major depressive disorder, or MDD, in women. One report suggests that Botox blocks facial expressions and prevents those nerve transmissions that lower mood and cause depression. Tests are still being conducted, but the results look promising.

Can you Botox while pregnant or breastfeeding?

It is not recommended that pregnant or nursing mothers receive Botox or other anti-aging injectables as we do not fully understand the risks to the unborn or newly born baby. Stick with skin care products approved by your OBGYN or pediatrician and hold off on injectable treatments.

Is Botox covered by insurance?

Aesthetic Botox treatments aren’t covered by insurance, but they may be covered if used to treat migraines or hyperhidrosis, which is excessive sweating. Other medical Botox treatments include eye twitching, lazy eye, cervical dystonia and bladder dysfunction. You should always check your insurance policy with your agent to see which procedures your specific carrier covers. Most aesthetic practices do not take insurance but will happily provide you with an invoice that you may present to your insurance carrier for a reimbursement for medical Botox treatments.

Is Botox preventative?

Most people put off getting any kind of cosmetic treatments until their skin shows strong signs of aging or damage. Although rigorous scientific studies haven’t been conducted over a prolonged period, many experts suggest that more and more people are using Botox and other injectables while in their 20s and 30s as preventative treatments. Wrinkles develop over time because the skin weakens and loses elasticity. Many medical and cosmetic experts believe that neuromodulators like Botox can prevent muscles from pulling in directions that create an unflattering appearance. Botox can retrain muscles, stimulate collagen production and prevent muscles from constricting and wrinkling the overlying skin.

Is Botox right for me?

No trusted medical source can give blanket advice. No prescription is one-size-fits-all, and Botox is no exception. That’s why scheduling a personal consultation is critical if you want to look your best and choose the right treatment options for your situation. Botox is one of the most trusted and popular cosmetic treatments in the world today, so read about the injectable at the official FDA (Food and Drug Administration) website and schedule a consultation.

Botox isn’t recommended if you’ve ever had an allergic reaction to Botox, botulinum toxin or any other of the compound’s ingredients. Consult your doctor if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. You should also avoid Botox Cosmetic if you have a skin infection at or near the injection site. However, one of the other neuromodulators that uses Botulinum toxin might be better in your particular case. That’s the advantage of using a full-service skin care facility because we can help decide if Dysport, Xeomin or dermal fillers would be better choices for you. Botox is great for the upper face, frown lines and forehead wrinkles. Fillers can improve your appearance in all areas of the face by smoothing out frown lines and plumping the skin into a more youthful appearance.
